Sand Dollar Beach | 6-8 minutes

Sand Dollar Beach is a small, peaceful beach near Rose Bay, known for its broad tidal flats and shallow water that stretches well out from shore at low tide.

Sand & Surf: Soft sand and shallow, generally gentle water make this an especially approachable beach for families and younger children.

Parking: A small parking area is available near the beach; space can be limited on busy summer days.

Activities: Perfect for wading, swimming, exploring tidal pools, beachcombing and searching the sand at low tide.

Hirtle’s Beach | 12-15 minutes

Hirtle’s Beach is one of the South Shore’s most striking beaches, with a long sweep of Atlantic coastline surrounded by dunes, wetlands and rugged coastal landscape.

Sand & Surf: A beautiful mix of sand and smooth stones with open-ocean water, rolling waves and conditions that can be more energetic than sheltered beaches.

Parking: A public parking area is located at the beach, with seasonal washroom facilities nearby.

Activities: Excellent for long beach walks, swimming when conditions allow, photography and hiking the spectacular Gaff Point trail.

Rissers Beach | 30-35 minutes

Rissers Beach Provincial Park is a beautiful sandy beach near Petite Rivière, combining an expansive shoreline with some of the best visitor facilities of the nearby beaches.

Sand & Surf: A long, sandy beach with inviting ocean water and generally good conditions for swimming during the summer months.

Parking: Ample provincial park parking is available, along with washrooms, change facilities and other seasonal amenities.

Activities: Excellent for swimming, family beach days, picnics, long walks and exploring the park’s scenic salt-marsh boardwalk.

Crescent Beach | 30-35 minutes

Crescent Beach is a beautiful sweeping barrier beach stretching between the communities of Crescent Beach and West Dublin, with water visible on both sides of the narrow strip of sand.

Sand & Surf: A long stretch of firm sand with Atlantic water and changing surf conditions depending on weather and tide.

Parking: Vehicles are permitted on portions of the beach, making it one of Nova Scotia’s most distinctive and accessible beach experiences. Tip: pack a lunch and tailgate!

Activities: Wonderful for long walks, swimming, beachcombing, photography, sunset watching and the memorable experience of driving along the beach.

Cherry Hill Beach | 40-45 minutes

Cherry Hill Beach is a beautiful, largely undeveloped barrier beach known for its long stretch of sand, dunes and wonderfully wild South Shore setting.

Sand & Surf: Natural sandy shoreline facing the Atlantic, with waves and conditions that vary with the weather. Widely considered by the local surf community to have the best and most consistent waves on Nova Scotia's South Shore.

Parking: A small parking area provides access to the beach; facilities are limited.

Activities: Ideal for long walks, swimming, birdwatching, photography and enjoying one of the area's more natural coastal environments. Surf and boogie board when the swell picks up, depending on the day.

Carters Beach | 75-90 minutes

Carters Beach is famous for its remarkably white sand, turquoise-looking water and series of sheltered coves, creating one of the most distinctive coastal landscapes in Nova Scotia.

Sand & Surf: Exceptionally soft white sand and clear Atlantic water give the beach an almost tropical appearance, although the water remains distinctly Nova Scotian.

Parking: Parking is limited and access should be planned carefully, particularly during busy summer periods.

Activities: Outstanding for walking, photography, beachcombing, exploring the coves and experiencing one of the South Shore’s most beautiful natural beaches.
